Our Story
Created in 2004 as the “New Horizons Concert Band”, a group of adults connected with the Amelia Arts Academy started rehearsing at the Peck Community Center. With a seasonal membership of 20 musicians, the group quickly became known for offering free concerts and a relaxed rehearsal experience for persons reuniting with their instruments.
The closing of the Amelia Arts Academy resulted in a restructuring of the group and the “Nassau Community Band” was born in 2012. A membership roster of 40 full-time residents included: music educators, college students, and folks who love playing their horn. Now a multi-generational ensemble, the group is recognized for a repertoire of classics, pops, marches, movie medleys, and the unexpected.
On Tuesday, May 17th 2016, Band President Chuck Belinski (euphonium), accepted a Proclamation from Fernandina Beach Mayor John Miller. The City of Fernandina Beach formally recognized the Nassau Community Band as an asset to the community.
The Nassau Community Band operates off of member dues and the generosity of the community. Donations are accepted for student scholarships, music naming rights, and other tax-deductible reasons.
