Stars and Stripes Forever
The Nassau Community Band performed Christmas music on Thursday, December 11, 2025 at the Dee Dee Bartels Boat Ramp on the north end of Amelia Island. The performance was to honor the late Dee Dee Bartels, who passed away on November 28, 2025, at the age of 102.
The band met at her boat ramp during COVID because they did not have access to their usual rehearsal spaces. Without this venue, the band may have temporarily fallen apart. Each week they practiced amidst something new, be it in the cold, heat, wind, rain or with the bugs.
The band is deeply grateful for her community spirit and driving force for boating and all things historical for Amelia Island and Fernandina Beach.
